How a Dentist May Help You Sleep Better

What is OSA?
OSA is commonly associated with snoring and happens when the airway is blocked by the soft tissue in the back of the throat as you sleep. In mild to moderate cases, a person may jolt awake a handful of times each night, or many more.
While men are more likely to experience this condition, it can affect anyone. Most often, those with the following may have a greater risk factor:
- Family history
- Over 40 years old
- Overweight or obese
- Large tongue or tonsils
- Deviated septum or sinus problems
What You Can Do
Many people associate OSA with a CPAP machine, which a person wears as they sleep. This machine is designed to force air down your airways to keep it open. While this is an effective treatment, some find the machine uncomfortable to wear and loud.
